Walks from several bases - you don't change hotels every night
Walks in France provides lots of useful information on day walks that we have linked together from two or three bases. You thus walk for the best part of the day and enjoy an optimum mix of inn-to-inn and circular walks.
Walks in France are thus multi-centre, and you benefit from not having to change hotels every night. Some hikers love the challenge and routine of getting up early, meticulously organizing that backpack and then moving on to pastures new. Others don’t, and these pages are for you others…

Walks in France are arranged in such a way that you will find yourself spending a couple of nights in a few places en route. These are generally villages of particular interest where we feel you will simply enjoy being in the evenings after the hiking day. The circular walking options are so good that to leave one out would fail to do justice to the location in question.
These circular or looped walks are of course linked together in an imaginative way, very often by a route de Grande Randonnee or GR. However, we have learnt from living and walking in France most days that these long distance trails that comprise the French trail system are historically the quickest ways to get from A to B, and not often the most scenic. They have also evolved through time, constrained by the exigencies of home and road building as well as property ownership changes. As time has progressed, many of them have lost their original interest. Our knowledge of the GPRs and PRs, more recently developed and with the aesthetics foremost in mind, means that you get the absolute best from your hiking tour in France.

The main benefits of our multi-centre France walks can thus be summarized as… • start and finish from your own hotel, or after a short morning transfer, for extra convenience and comfort. • Stay a couple of nights in one cosy location – no need to move on to a new base every night. • Walking has been designed with your enjoyment in mind, or maybe a theme, and not just the imperative of walking from hotel A to accommodation B. • Many walks can be shortened or lengthened to suit - take the slog out of hiking in France or facilitate a greater sense of physical challenge. There are of course thousands of circular walking opportunities and GRs, and all of them will give you a physical work-out. But you seek more than that, don’t you? The skill lies in selecting the best walks – achieving the optimal balance between the physical and the aesthetic, arranging them under an interesting theme, and doing so in a manageable way that ensures you do not loose your bearings. This is the hallmark of all our walking tours in France.
