The Very Best of Stevenson brings you the three best days of hiking along the Robert Louis Stevenson trail - a 45 mile/72 km trek and three full days of great walking in Lozere. Morover, your experience commences with a ride along the magnificent Cevenol mountain railway line. A holiday in its own right - see our dedicated Cevenol tour - this ride sets the mood, enabling you to see the terrain that will delight your feet one you commence hiking southern France.
The highlights of your tour include the Mirandol viaduct at Chasserades, walking by the source of the river Lot, the ascent to and descent from fabulous Mont Lozere, and the 'chemin des crêtes’ that takes you over the crest of the Cevennes' waves towards the ancient bourg of Florac.
You stay in the best hotels that the trail has to offer in each of your four overnight stops and enjoy a memorable walking break from one of the best-rated hiking tours in southern France.

Day 1. LA BASTIDE PUYLAURENT.
Arrival in Ales for tour briefing and train to the Cevenol line's highest point, where you check-in to your hotel.
Day 2. LA BASTIDE PUYLAURENT to LE BLEYMARD.
18.5 miles-28 kms
You climb to the highest point of the walking tour so far, cross the watershed between the Atlantic and Mediterranean, and head down valley to picture-postcard Chasseradès. Then you enter the Cevennes proper, with some great views and the chance to see the source of the Lot River.
Day 3. LE BLEYMARD to PONT DE MONTVERT.
11 miles-18 kms.
An early start is advised for this memorable walk across Mont Lozere, with the option to climb Le Pic de Finiels (1699 ms). Then descend to Le Pont de Montvert and Camisard Country.
Day 4. PONT DE MONTVERT to FLORAC.
16 miles-26 kms.
The longest and most challenging day of the tour is blessed with some memorable views over the heart of the Cevennes.
Day 5. End of your hiking short break.
And the end of a memorable mini-trek. Au revoir et bon retour.

To join this tour, the nearest airport or TGV railway station is Nimes. Then you take an onward train to La Bastide via Ales
