We all walk at different speeds; some find descents more difficult than ascents; short hikes can be very challenging; and the terrain underfoot can make all the difference, especially when compounded with adverse weather conditions or intense heat.
We have chosen to classify our programmes as follows:
-
Light [1] – hikes designed to last half a day (normally the morning). These are our Hiking and
Rambling tours.
-
Challenging [4]. These last two classfications are full-day walking tours. They may be inn-to-inn
trekking tours or multi-centre
walking tours. They feature significant ascents or descents.
Whilst a light walking programme may offer one or two 'moderate' hiking opportunities, it would not comprise any 'challenging' walks. On the other hand, a challenging programme might feature a couple of moderate days, or even a light walking opportunity on a ‘rest day’.
